Elle Firisua is a Solomon Islands female artist that is married and now living in New Zealand with her husband.

Elle's work explores traditional Solomon Island motifs derived from the intricate kapkap adornments as seen on her kapkap series which she had re-made to create narratives that follow her migratory experience of culture, migration and identity.

In this narrative the canvas becomes a record of her journey, exploring issues of cultural identity as she moves between international boundaries(Solomon Islands and New Zealand), often without her family.  That became one of her primary concerns portrayed in her paintings which often relate specifically to trans-national and cross-cultural states of transition by physically moving between places.  Her paintings speak of these shifts and relationships as 'the notion of constant translation' from one society to another.  

Through this creative practice, she reflects on her own trans-location, the differentiated states of identity, her 'in-between' space of 'self', which she calls a 'relocated identity in a global environment'.
